2021 Model of Positive Living Award Winners

We are very pleased to announce our 2021 Model of Positive Living Award Winners John “Rocky” Furman, Jr. and Elaine Talevi.  Please take a moment to read some of what their nominators shared with us!

John R Furman, Jr (“Rocky”)

From the nominator: John R Furman Jr, also known as “Rocky” has been an amazing neighbor to many in Wells and in the surrounding communities. He was treasurer for S.O.S. Maine (Save our Shores Maine) for over 20 years, a part of the Wells Rotary for years, in charge of Wells Harborfest for years and has been active with Laudholm Farm for decades. He plows people out, he shovels their walks. He is always there for everyone. He delivers fresh corn, brings fresh berries, leaves kind notes, calls, texts and checks on others throughout the year.

If you need a ride, something fixed, or help in any way, he is there for you. No one truly knows how much he does for others every day because he would never tell you. He always has a cheerful smile and a can-do attitude.  His warmth, kindness and compassion make others feel better for knowing him. Many who do know him call him “one of a kind”, “the best” and “amazing”. You always feel better after an encounter with Rocky.

Elaine Talevi

From the nominator: Elaine and her husband Dave built a very successful business – Sea-Vu Campground.  Dave passed away suddenly in 2010.   Out of Elaine’s pain was born the David F. Talevi Foundation.  Established as a 501c3 today it continues to thrive in his honor, all through the leadership of Elaine Talevi, President.

In addition to continuing to manage a successful business, the foundation Elaine leads funds 5-6 $1000 grants for local students and camper kids annually.  The Foundation also makes Silver Level gifts to the Maine Heart Association, The American Cancer Society as well as Honor Flight, Center for Grieving Children, and Portland’s Women’s Free Clinic.

In addition to her other “duties”, Elaine teaches aerobics, both at the campground during the season and the Cape Elizabeth school system during the school year. Here is a woman who has always strived to bring happiness and success to others.

We thank all who responded to our call for nominations and we thank Rocky and Elaine for setting examples for us all.
